I thought about ignoring this, but decided I'm just bored enough to reply.
It's awesome having a fast truck but speed isn't going to get you through that mud hole, pull out that stuck Diesel truck, or haul all your junk going to the dump.
Are you going to try and argue speed is necessary to get over hills and through certain mud holes? Sure, obviously you need horsepower just like you need torque. Speed is needed obviously. I'm talking about 0 - 60 times, or having the ability to go 156 mph. A 4-cyl Cobalt will go to 60 MPH faster than my truck will. Does that mean that Cobalt will out-work my truck?
I left that comment as a joke.
I dont go mudding so I like speed. I live in boontown Florida and everyone has 4x4s and go to the mud bogs every sunday. I like to be different.
I wouldnt feel too terribly bad about losing to a shortbox with a 350. 350's are decent motors and are pretty well known to be speedy (and can be built really speed with very little money).
What ya should do is get yourself a nice little ford shortbox, hop up a 351 a little bit, THEN try racing him again!
I mean as it sits right now, ya might as well race a mustang with your truck, she just aint built for racing!
I am in agreement about your F250 up against a 1500 chevy. If you had 4.56 gears on them 31 in tires, you would have caught him a little quicker. It does sound like the kid cheated you, so I wouldnt let my ego get too hurt just get him in a situation that you still have the advantage to make him honest.
I do remember as a kid doing that in a 1976 mercury cougar with a 351W out of a 78 cougar bored 0.030 over and only the FMX trans on 2.75 gearing with snow tires. Had some jerk kid in a dodge omni box want to race me. He took off and had 2 lengths before that ol heavy cougar got out of the hole. But over took him before the even 1/4 way point of the quarter was gone, And beat him with 5 car lengths after it. He was a sucker for punishment, he kept racing me 4 more times before he gave up. Also had 2 other guys in the car at over 210 lbs a piece, with a car having a curb weight of 4200 lbs factory stock before the rust shaved off a few pounds.
i agree ford trucks are built to pull unlike chevys and dodges and if i want to race i have my lincoln, since i bought the car i've had rice grinders chebby boys, and mopar children trying to race me and im willing to race. the old b**** is fast for a 1987 with a 5.0 high output
I Raced a short-bed 4x4 4.8 liter chevy today and lost to a down a back-road. It was a lighter truck and the 4.8 is fast! He got me from about 40. I'd love to add some power adders to my truck to keep my pulling and gain some horses. I don't think my speedo will agree with it though lol. It'll just have to bounce then.
