Muffler part number needed

Does anyone know the original part number for a 1960 F-100 muffler (292 engine)? Also, what years does this muffler fit?

Hi Transam525.

Well according to the Parts Manual I have for the 1960 F-100, that part number was
B7TZ-5230-A for both the 223 and the 292.

But Number Dummy Bill told me Ford had changed all those numbers, so you might wait until you hear from him or Col Flashman -who is a 60 F-100 Sharpie - just to confirm or correct!

Good Luck,
Julie

I've located a NOS muffler, but the part number on the sticker is C5TZ-5230-C. Any idea what trucks this muffler fits? The part number (5230) is correct, but the application (C5TZ) and version (C) are different; however the muffler does look correct. The weird part is the muffler has a physical stamping of C5TA 5230 AG on the casing.

Hi Again!

Well no that's not so weird. 5230 is the group number for all the mufflers in this book. I looked back in my book and the C5TZ-5230-C was for a 61-63 F-100 (as well as many others). I couldn't find the stamped part number. Maybe that has something to do with the part number changes Bill told me about.

But I did find a chart with the B7TZ-5230-A (your supposed '60 F-100 muffler) dimensions on it (and of course there wasn't one for the C5TZ- to compare it to). Maybe you can compare these with the one you have.

Length of the muffler body is 21.25 "
Length of the inlet tube from the end to the muffler body is 2.5 "
Length of the outlet tube from the muffler body to the end is 2.75"
Muffler Body Diameter is 6.34"
Inlet diameter is 2"
Outlet Diameter is 2"

I hope that helps.

J!
