I recently put on new rotor and pads on my 01 Expedition. It took about 9 hours to do the front brakes. I figured that I would show you what kind of hell I went through. but I cant figure out how to but pics on here so follow this link to see them.
the rotors were seized on so bad. The re-assembly took 10 minutes, it was getting the rotors off that took so long. I used every trick in the book to get them off.
I just saw that you live in Michigan. That would explain it. Glad you got it done. Just imagine what a shop would have charged if it had taken them that long.
Yikes, the worst ones I ever did were the stock rear rotors on my 02 Exploder. I was going to turn them and reuse them, but I had to beat the tar out of them to get them off. Oh well. My situation was nothing compared to yours... Hopefully you cooled off with a nice brew...
i use an air chisel on the rotor to axle flange surface to shock it, them whack the outer edge of the rotor with a 5 lb dead blow hammer. it has never taken me more than 3 tries to get the rotors broke loose.
I just replaced my rear rotors and pads on Saturday. I'm the fool who loaded the pads in backwards on one wheel. I know your pain, I usually take an 8ft 2x4 run it out the other side placing one end against the exposed part of the rotor (with help) and beat the hell out of the end of the 2x4 with a sledgehammer. With out a lift, and working on stands it's the only effective method I have found. Had to do it on my rear rotors this weekend in 13 degree weather. But hey, I saved a ton of money!
