Rotor question

Has anyone done front rotors on a 1996 F-350 4X4 single rear axle. I'm in the process of doing mine right now and cannot figure out how to separate the hub from the rotor. Anyone? Thanks Dan

Well i beleave that you have drums in the rear. You will have to look behind the backing plate and pull off the rubber plug. There will be a small hole, inside that hole theres a small adjuster. You will need to back off on that adjuster to get the drums off.

you have to unbolt the hubs from the rotors. dissasymble locking hubs. remove wheel bearing retainer nuts. pull caliper off. pull rotor/hub assymbly off and remove the i belive 6 bolts out of the back and then the rotor is free. the rotors and hubs will most likely be rusted togethor so they may need a little bfh persuasion.....

barebackjake, there are no bolts that hold the front rotor to the hub, just the wheel studs. I popped them out, but i can't figure out if the hub falls out from behind the rotor or comes out the front of the rotor.

Good grief, another dunce cap award to the designer on this one. Why not put them in the front of the hub instead of behind like that???

then thats 2 less hours to do a brake job.....it really dosnt matter to me cause on the OBS rigs you should be repacking wheel bearings during that anyways and on the SD sealed bearings you dont have to worry bout it.

Ok, so the hub comes out from the front. Can it be knocked out with a hammer? Do i need to use a jaw puller? Torches? Also, it looks like the back side of the hub (the part that sits flush with the back side of the rotor)has a tapered edge and does not appear that it would come through the front, but i could be wrong. I guess just my big question is what method do i need to use to separate the two, or should i say what method does ford call for.

i set the back side of the hub on a block of wood and hammer the rotor off the back. it will come off and since the rotor is being replced anyway hammer away!
