Do any of you run 4.10s in your trucks with a C6 tranny? Just wondering what kind of RMP I will be running at 55mph. I have 31 inch tires. I'm running 3.54s in it right now and would like to have more pulling power. This is my work truck and pull alot of grain during harvest time and during the winter it's always loaded with wood and pulling a trailer loaded with wood. Really the most miles I would drive at one time would be 20 or so. It's not a highway truck but I do drive it every day. I just don't want to wing the nuts off driving 55. I think right now it is 2200 at 55. If I could get it up to no more than 2800 then I think that would be good. Would a 4.10 be in that range or will it be over 3000?
Ok thanks for the replies. I know I have the 8.8 rear and the dana 44 front but I was looking on ebay for a used set and seen some that are reverse cut for the front. What the heck does that mean?
I was just doing some research and it said that since I have the 3.54 dana 44 front I have to buy a different carrier or the thick gears to be able to use the 4.10s. Is this correct?
Unless you have to have the taller tires it's cheaper and easier to go to shorter tires next time you buy some. Or borrow a set from somebody to try. That way you could use the calculators to figure out what gears you need if you have to stay with 31's.
well i have the opposite problem. I have plenty of power and cant hardly do 60mph withought throwing a rod it sounds like. I have 265/75/16 on now. Would it be the cheapest route to just put bigger taller tires on since i need new tires anyway?
It means your front diff is turning the opposite way a rear axle turns and you need a "reverse cut" gear set for the front diff.

They are not "reverse cut" gears. Here is a good article that explains all the terminology (correct and incorrect) and why "reverse spiral" is the correct name. You're looking for Dana 44 reverse spiral high pinion gears.

Yes, that's correct. There is a carrier break at 3.92, and if you 'cross' that line with your gear change you need a new carrier.

It would help, but make sure it helps enough. A tire change is not going to help if you want to drop a lot of RPMs. Also you should find out what RPMs you're running now, figure out your tire size and how much different sized tires will help. Also you can only go so big before you run into clearance problems.
