I bought a 99 F350 4x4 w/ auto trans - 268K miles.Tranny shifts weird- real soft & slow. 1st & 2nd almost slips into 3rd, & real fast into the rest. Put shift kit in - not much better. Bought a junkyard tranny with 85K - does the same thing. Is this computer problem?? Not looking for a new tranny - I want to get this figured out. If not, I also have a 94 4x4 Power Stroke w/ 5spd. Will this bolt up to the 99 (clutch, p. plate, flywheel, & housing)? I don't care about appearance or resale. Have a 08, 99, & 94 - all F350 4x4's. This is the first auto trans I've had - don't much care for it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
It sounds odd I would have said the trans is on it's way out but one with less miles doing the same thing of course with a used trans there is no guarantee it is a good trans either . Did you flush the trans and replace the fluid and filter? There is a guy on here Mark that knows a lot about these transmissions so give it some time to see if he shows up.
Edit: And I don't believe the older trans will bolt up with modifying.
Welcome to FTE. What kind of shift kit did you put in? Did it come with a separator plate for the accumulator valve body? If so, have you tried drilling larger holes in the separator plate?
I just installed a TransGo tugger kit in my wife's new 01 and that made a difference. Sonnax makes some modulator valves to help firm up the shifts. Like you, I'm used to the stick, but there are plenty of options out there for the autos.
