im changing the wires from the speed sensor to everything the sensor controls, i kno i need 16g wire, anyone know how many feet i will need? (95 Bronco)
Well, the wiring harness runs up through the frame and picks up a host of other component wiring. Estimating puts each wire run in excess of 15 feet if you are following the harness all the way back to the ECM. Out of sheer curiosity, what necessitates the replacement of a set of wires that can really only see damage at the point where the harness is exposed to the elements and/or flexes where it is suspended between moving parts (i.e. frame and axle)?
well, iv been having shifting probs, i put it on a code reader and got speed sensor falt so i replaced the sensor n it still dosnt work,i was told replace the wires but it only does it every now and then shifts hard 1st-4th, wont down shift ect.
i dont know what to do about it
I might suggest having a look at the connector for the VSS on the harness itself. It rides around on the axle picking up crud and if any of the wires are loose or the insulation is cracked or pulled out of the back of the connector you could be getting intermittent moisture issues and/or shorting. If you have done the legwork and found out which pins of the ECM are the VSS send and return you might do a continuity check on the harness itself between the ECM pins and the pins in the VSS connector on the harness. If the wires turn out to be the culprit, then you might have to undertake the process of replacing them but I'd be willing to bet the problem is somewhere that the wires are exposed to the elements and movement which would mean at the very worst you would have to splice in new wiring from the point where the problem exists back to the connector and not the entire length of the wires for the VSS in the harness.
the VSS and the plug to it are both "new" got them used... but it dosnt do it everyday... maybe once a week or once a month thats what i dont get about it
