I have a question about diesel fuel. I have heard that the fuel at the pumps can very from state to state depending on the additives put in it for emissions purposes. I have mainly heard that your truck will run alot better once you get out of california. I was just wondering if this is true or if it is an old wives tale. I am moving to Texas next week from California and was just curious.
The new ULSD in Cali should be the same as the ULSD anywhere else, but while I was on a truck stop website, they listed the Cali stations as having CARB or California ULSD (cant remember which word was used). Dont know exactly what difference there is, but it could make the truck run with less power.
I am sure California loads everything they have down with emissions stuff You can get a bad batch of fuel I know one exxon station here you are about guarranteed to get bad fuel.
There is a difference in fuel from station to station. Ron (ronspowerstroke) had posted in a thread quite some time ago that he had noticed his MPG go up (IIRC) when he filled up at a different station.
I noticed a big difference the other day. I usually run Valero but filled up at Chevron. I the hooked up and pulled a load from Mineola to Tyler and on the big hill I easily climbed the hill 5mph faster than ever.
Could there be that big a difference in power and economy? Nothing else in my scenario was different.

When USLD diesel came out, both of my 7.3's dropped an average of 2 mpg. Also, we have a great Ford dealer that has a whole service division devoted only to trucks and they've got top notch technicians working there. They've noticed an increase in the need to replace the drain valve gaskets since the newer fule came out.
