Just a quick message to let you know that I'll be visiting this site to get help with the restoration of my 1949 M-47. Lots of work ahead as I've just started. My '49 merc came home with me via a trade for my '48 M-47. The 1948 was missing a lot of it's Mercury trim but over the years I've collected some spares. The '49 was missing a few parts that I had in my spares. But the '49 is all original. Still has the original green with black fenders. It's originally from Calgary Alberta. A lot less rust than the trucks here in Southern Ont. Well guess that's enough for my first message.
Pictures?? Might take me a while. I'm not very good at the computer. My two finger typing gets me started but hopefully I can post some pictures at a later date. I'm sure I'll have a lot of dumb questions for you all to groan at. Thanks for the welcome. Any Merc truck owners on this site. Early Mercs are my favorites. ( !945-52 ) Thanks Greg
yep theres a few merc guys here , and they aint no dumb questions to groan at other than the one you shouldv'e asked . none of us know it all , other than number dummy , and even then occasionally all of us need our brains kick started again . use the search feature and nine times out of ten you'll find a thread was started 'bout what ya wanna know before . sit back and enjoy the show !
Welcome Greg, glad to have you join us in our little part of the old truck world, is your truck in running order or a basket case like most of ours were when we got them, you'll love this place, Garry AKA HOMADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Garry. My truck isn't a basket case. It was driven off the flatbed and into my garage. It's a western Canada truck. The usual bumps and dents. Some rust in the usual places. The lower front fenders and running boards. The cab is good. A couple small holes in the floor but cab corners are good. I've only had a couple nuts and bolts that wouldn't come undone ( But still early into the tear down) The flathead is a factory rebuild out of Edmonton Alberta. (A plate on the block below the coil ) The box has seen a lot of use. Lots of dents and "modifications" by a previous owner. Lucky enough to have a Mercury tailgate as they are getting very hard to find and I didn't have one in my spares stash. I've got all the hard to find Mercury pieces. My hubcaps were my best find. Got them from a guy that had them unused in a box. Thank you all for the welcome, Greg
