I have 2004 F-250 SD XLT V-10 4x4. It makes a Thump under the hood someplace. Does not happen all the time, but enough to make me wonder what it is and how to fix it.
I've heard it also. I've always assumed it was the blend door, which (when the engine is cold) draws intake air around the exhaust manifold to aid in cold weather operations and warmup.

Actually, it's the door in the HVAC housing. It is spring loaded and bleeds down to an open position until you start the vehicle. Once vacuum builds, it slams shut. You can eliminate this by putting the HVAC control in the "off" position when you shut down.
Has nothing to do with anything under the hood.(Haven't had heat risers on the manifolds in a decade or so.)
Now you all need to realize, and ASE and Denver Automotive keep mistakenly cross referenceing the Electricalorcanine with the Mechanicalorfeline. These are 2 entirely different critters.
