Ok I've got a '73 Ford F-100 with 390 and a Holley 4bbl and I had the carb rebuilt a few months back. Got the carb back and put it back on and turned the key and it fired right up. Idled high becuase it hadn't been tuned yet. Turned it off and came back to it a month later and nothing. It would not start. Is it possible that the fuel pump went out or bad fuel. I replaced both fuel filters a few days ago.
Pull the fuel line off the carb, stick the end in a container of some kind that wont break if it falls off, then crank the motor and see how much fuel is pumped into the bottle or whatever you use, should be around an ounce or so with every cycle of the pump. If no fuel pumps out the problem is between there and the tank, could be the pump, a cracked fuel line, tank selector valve, or someone stole all your gas maybe?
If it pumps fuel out the problem will be on the carb side, if its the floats, take a screwdriver and loosen the needle valve assemblies, they will screw all the way out, check them and when you put them back in pull the little plugs on the side of the bowls when you get fuel to it and set the valves so the fuel sits at the bottom of the sight hole. these things should help you figure out whats going on anyway..
Well I went out today to work on the truck and messes with the needle and bowl a bit, and ended up replacing my battery and guess what....it started. I don't think replacing the battery was the issue, but it ran then died but started back up again so just some adjustment issues, Thanks all for the help
