Who's got sound

I am thinking of upgrading my stock sound system. I wondered what you guys have done. Has anyone replaced the 5x8 with some 6x9? Any custom ideas or pictures would be great. I kinds wanted to keep a factory look so no boxes on the floor or atleast not in my feet space. Thanks

I put Inifinity Kappas in the rear of my truck and they sound like crap. I would steer well clear of them. They sounded awesome in the doors of my wife's car, so I bought a pair for the rear of her car and the rear of my truck. They have all been a direct bolt in and included wiring adaptors so you don't have to cut up your wiring harness. If only they had some sound......

I got rid of the rear speakers all together... to run 6x9's your gonna have to actually cut the hole in the door bigger.

I replaced my front speaker with some 5x7's and cut a hole in the little plastic pocket at the bottom of the door and put two 6.5 round in there. I'll try to get some pictures up tommorrow.

Sound comes from the source! Your speakers are only as good as your source. Putting expensive speakers on your stock deck would be like putting a sweet exhaust system on an escort. Spend your money on a good deck, then move on to the speakers. You would be surprised how well your factory speakers sound with a quality deck.

This guy has it right on the money. It's suprising how much better an aftermarket deck is, even with the stock speakers.

If you want a clear, loud stereo you're going to need amps. Most head units simply can't put out very many watts continuously (RMS). If they say 4x45 they might put out 10-17 RMS.

My setup is getting pretty old, but I have a Sony MEX-5DI head unit, 5x8 Pioneer Rev speakers and a JBL 4x60 Powervalve amp. (I think that's what the amp is.) Just that is pretty awesome but when I had my Kicker Q5 12 inch solo baric with a JBL 600 watts amp, it pounded in a regular cab 94 F150.

I have alpine 6x9's in all four doors and an alpine 9827 head unit. I normally have a lanzar 1400w peak amp pushing a L7 kicker bridged at 700w rms. It pounds pretty good, but i normally back it down for sound quality and suck a little bass out of the speakers.

My speakers are my weakest part i think. They arent top of the line. But they work and they sound decent. Better than the stock setup at least

5X7's will do just fine if yer using cross-overs through the deck. I have mine set a 120hz which is great for mid to high range.....sometimes I switch to 80hz to tweak it a bit, and the sub will handle everthing else down low.

Thanks for the suggestions. Like some have said I will for sure be changing the deck out. I was just wondering what was the best speaker set up everyone liked. I am pondering an amp for more power and better sound throughout the range, but I think the 6x9 will handle the power better then the 5x8. It may be too difficult to get the 6x9 in if no one has attempted it before. I have yet to take the stock speakers out, and so I dont know what restrictions I will have.

I thought these fords came stock with a 5x8 not the 5x7?

Burnstoughford you mentioned having 6x9s in your truck. Were they hard to get in or did your truck come like that?

I installed 3-way Pioneer 6"x8" and they fit right in. Just buy the clips and the wires will attach right to them. They are of good quality i've had them for over 3 years now and haven't blown one and I blare them. Of course that is attached to my alpine head unit that i've had for 3 years as well and my 1500 watt boss amp that powers 2 12" image dynamic ID subs that i've had for two years. Now the speakers are used for high and mid range but not for low because i have the low frequencies sent to my subs. hope this helps, i would definately get a new head unit and then speakers, i'd suggest pioneer or alpine try to stay away from the cheap stuff.

From what I can remember mine were 5X8 stock....Alpine makes a really good speaker all around and I highly recommend them. Might want to re-wire your new speakers since the oem is pretty cheap...upgrade to at least a 14 gauge wire.

I'm pretty sure front and back are 5x8. I'd just use that. If you're looking for a whole lot of bass, you're wasting your time with door speakers. You need subs for that. Doors are good for mids, highs, and a very limited amount of low.

Edit: Wires are also a good idea if you amp. All mine are 14g I think. (It's been about 4-5 years since I did it)

6x8 is stock. I had 3 way pioneers in mine and they were much clearer than the stockers.

I have a JVC headunit and 6x8 pioneer speakers in the front doors. They bolt directly in(pioneer made them just for fords) and sound pretty good for the price. A word of advice for single cab owners like me, before you buy 4 speakers try out just 2 new front speakers. It didnt make alot of difference in sound quality to me to make it worth while to buy rears also. The seats block most of the sound from the rear speakers.

I also have a 12" Kicker CVR DVC 4 ohm and a Kicker ZX400.1 amp. I have the Kicker in a sealed box that is approximatly 1.25 cubic in.

My total system cost a little more than $400 and can pound hard and still have decent sound quality.
