Ive got a 83 f100 2wd with I6 and aod, Id like to go with a 351w,c6 or 460,c6. I need to know how much each engine weighs
before I order the front suspension, so if anyone can help
Id appreciate it.
Thanks for the reply, The thing is that Ive got access to a 460.
but Im afraid that there will be too much to modify. I believe
a 351w could bolt in with a radiator and a transmission.I was wondering about the weight because Im putting a heidts front suspension under the front. Its going to be a project truck so the first thing to go is the I6. thanks again blacksheep
the460 weighs about 700 lbs. you can trim weight by using aluminum intake and heads, but it is a big motor.
the i6 is around 400 lb. the 351 about 480-500.
as for difficulty in putting 460 in truck, it does require parts, but they are available from L+L in texas, or from recycler of of factory trucks.
it gives a heck of a kick to an f150!
Do you know the horsepower between the two? I imagine there is
quite a difference in price to build them. I only have about $2000 to spend on the engine.
you don't have to build the 460!! just put it in and enjoy a reliable stock high power engine.
the engine was used in lincolns as well as trucks, and it ran nice and smooth, but when the lincoln owner had his wife and friends in the big car, it would get out of its own way real quick.
it is a brute , but a gentleman in one package!
I know where a 69 Lincoln Conty is with what I assume is the original 460. I drove it but I couldn't cut her loose because the owner was with me. He wants to sell it, and I'd like to have it, but I am reluctant to spend any more bucks on vehicles/parts right now. My wife has been very understanding so far but I don't want to push my luck. I do wish I had known of this before I built my 351W tho.
