stereo (amp) question
stereo (amp) question
For a long time I've wanted to do something as far as the stereo in my truck. Finally ordered just a 10'' sub and amp to put in. I havent recieved anything yet but my truck is reg cab and just wondering suggestions on where to mount the amp. I don't know jack about systems or anything (my cousin knows alot, he helped order some good stuff with me) so just lookin on good places to mount the amp in the reg cab
heres what you do, i just did it in my truck and it works great for a 4 channel and a 500w sub amp. You remove the plastic on the back wall so you can lift the carpet on the wall up. cut a piece of 1/2 in. or 3.4 in. mdf or plywood the right size to cover the whole back wall. put double sided tape on the wood, stick it to the back wall, pull the carpet back down over it and screw the plastic back in. Then you have a mounting surface to put your screws into on the back wall for easy tuning and installation access. plus it just looks cool when you wanna show it off and i hidden when you don't.
x2 sounds like a good idea, got the pics???

I forgot to mention in the album that you want to make sure and run your speaker wire down one side and your power wire down the other side of the truck to avoid any distortion. The instructions apply for both sides. Also forgive the messy look of the wires, it really is a clean install but I have them all out right now as I am about to fill that big empty space on the right with a 12" shallow mount sub!

Oh I forgot to mention, if you go to the 4th picture right behind the grounding post is the plastic tab that holds the carpet in place, remove that screw and you can lift the carpet up enough to tuck the plywood under it. Also when you are attaching screws through carpet NEVER drill a pilot hole. The drill bit will catch on the carpet and pull the threads causing a twirl, a pull, or even a bird's nest. Instead just drill right through the carpet and into the wood and you should have no problems.
