Im looking at getting an x-cal tuner mainly for throttle response and shifting points. I want to get a custom tune even though my truck is stock for now, is there one place better than another to get it from or will most companies give the same custom tune?
I am not familiar with that brand, but contact Mike at 5 STAR TUNING. He is a member here and was great to deal with. He carries SCT; He just programmed one for me that made a big difference. Especially if your looking for performance, faster shifts, and more power. Tell him what grade fuel you run, and he can make it happen. I just did mine a couple weeks ago and what a difference. The only thing I have yet to see is better fuel mileage, but the performance aspect is great. Added bonus is, he gives a nice discount to club members.

ps thanks 96sherm & magnet1 for the complements
69ford, I just installed one on my F250 SD with a 5.4L so far I noticed a very slight shifting difference, the throttle response seems to be better but it pings like hell, I dont know if I'm going to keep it or not. I'm kinda hoping that Mike can enlighten me as to what else I can do with this thing otherwise nit worth it imo.
briyoung, are you running 91 octane tunes but burning regular fuel?? or if you have your timing advanced too much. that will cause pinging. best to return it to stock until you figure out what the problem is. too much pinging could cause piston damage due to detonation.
Hey Mike... how about a sweet deal on a performance 91 octane tune, due to the compliments??

The dealer set it to 87 octane. Thats all I run. If I go out now and plug it in would I be able to tell where its set at?
yes, you should be able to... at the very least, return it to stock, then run the programmer again and see if the timing was set at a different advance. did you purchase from Mike?? i've read that sometimes the tuners shouldn't be run in colder weather because of pinging...i have no problems with mine...
