02 f-250 7.3. Only mods are edge tuner, turbo back exhaust and k&n filter. Every once in a while, when the truck is cold, it has absolutely no power. There is no boost and the egt's go way up to about 900* if you let it. The transmission still shifts but the top speed is only like 30mph. Then all of the sudden it will kick in and run fine. The truck has around 180K miles with lots of towing but still runs great. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!
alot of the 7.3Ls had a program that international put in the computer to protect the engine from damage due to the operator no offense but once the truck gets to a certian engine operating temp.
It has only started doing this in the last 15K miles, and when I say "Cold" I guess I mean has not been driven. It will still happen after it has been idling for about 15min on a cold morning start. But It does not do it all the time.
well that is wierd then id see about checking the ECM out or like aldrigde said check the EBPV and go from there but if its under 40 degrees i can see it acting funny were i work we have a 7.3L and a DT466 and th eother shop that i work at we haev a 7.3L and they all wont run until u get the truck around 100 degrees but urs sounds alittle diff
I have driven lots of 7.3L and have never felt one do this. I know the truck is above 100* when it has done this sometimes. It does it more after the truck has sat for a while (more than an hour in cold weather).
I had a similar issue recently with my '05. Even with mild temps (60's-70's) this fall it wouldn't run right until warmed up. Dealorship replaced the fuel injector control module under warrenty. Exactly what was wrong was not passed along.
I'm having the exact same issue on my 02 PSD, but mine happens EVERY TIME I crank it when it is cold. When I say cold, I mean relative to operating temp. It happens even when it is 80 degrees outside if it is the first time I have cranked it that day.
It does not even have enough power to pull up the slight slope in my driveway at full throttle. If I put it in neutral and floor it, the RPMs will go up to about 1,100 RPM and then slowly creep up to about 3,000, but it takes about 5 seconds. After the motor runs for about a minute, it will start to get power and will engage the turbo.
Is this the EBPV valve sticking?
How do you check it
Can it be fixed or does it have to be replaced
If it must be replaced, how expensive is the part and how difficult is it?
