Hiya guys! I wasn't really sure were to post this so i'm sorry if its in the wrong area..
I was wondering is there any Cheap easy way to replace the drum breaks on my 79 truck with disc breaks? did they ever make a 9'' with disc breaks??
Thanks guys for any help you can give..
Linclon Versalis had them. But realy there are kits all over the place to change it over. Summit, Jegs, probly sevral vender on this site have the kits
There are a lot of places that make disc brakes set up for 9 inch. Almost all the dirt track race cars run a hat with disc brakes. Pretty much all the aftermarket places sell them, just compare prices. They include the truck bolt pattern also.

1977/80 Lincoln Versailles came with rear discs as standard equipment.
The same setup was available as an option on 1976/80 Ford Granada's and Mercury Monarch's.
A 1977/80 Lincoln Versailles is nothing more than a partially reskinned 1975 Granada.
Bought a 76 lincoln for a $100 back in 93 that had a 460 with disc brakes on the rear end. Still have the motor, trans, and rearend. Have used the exhaust manifolds, and the gears on my 73 tbird. Still want to upgrade to the disc brake rearend for my tbird. Some day I will.

I know i have found allot of kits but they are all out of my budget range, I can't pay 800 to 2000 for breaks.
I was wanting some thing I could just bolt in place off another car or truck.
Keep in mind the versilles were 5x4.5 lug pattern which only a few years of F-100's had - so they are NOT the standard 5x5.5 pattern the F-150's had.
Also - brake parts for these old things are expensive. You're most likely better off with a kit or piecing one together yourself.
I used 1982 Jeep CJ-5, 4wd, front rotors and chevy calipers with some weld on brackets (get these from summit or jegs) for the early bronco rear end (9") I used in the old exploder.
The jeep rotors are 5x5.5 and slide on so they will slider over the wheel studs. For the calipers I used the generic Chevy front calipers (mine were from 1989 Chevy caprice) are they are easy to find and easy/cheap to find parts for. This helps if we brake down in Mexico at a race or something.
The standard chevy calipers don't have setups for the E-brake, but you can pay some more and get El Dorado calipers if you want these.
Get a in line proportioning valve/adjuster and you're pretty good to go.
Looks like a pretty good deal. I would get in touch with the guy to make sure they will fit your axle housing. I have the stainless steel brakes corp. rear disc setup on mine and love it although a little expensive. Chuck
Hmmm I swear I posted my information yesterday, but it doesn't seem to be showing up.
Just a heads up on the SSBC kit. I bought mine back in 1997, and it was a nightmare to install. Brackets needed modified, axle flanges needed to be turned down to fit the rotors and I could never get the emergency brake to work right.
At the time I think it cost about $650, now I see it is $800 or more.
Plus the installation manual was a one page sheet that looked like it was drawn with a crayon.
Steer clear of SSBC.
I will say I still have the brakes mounted on my 74 and are still holding up just fine, except the emergency brake of course.
