Been having problems with my fuel system so I took out my front tank on the 90' superduty, it was full of black plastic from the filter thing on the end of the fuel feed that goes into the tank. After cleaning the tank it has sprung pinholes on the bottom. Anyone have a source for new 19 gallon tanks? thanks...
If you don't mind paying a little more, I think you can get plastic ones nowadays too.
I would definitely go with a plastic tank. You can find them at wrecking yards too (both front and rear are available in plastic). I think the powerstroke trucks from the mid 90s started to have them already.
I had to patch my rear tank recently, but eventually I do plan to replace both tanks with plastic when they fail.
You can get a (I believe) 30 or 33 gallon plastic rear tank, originally from a Bronco (since they didn't have dual tanks). You can't keep your spare with that though.
I've been told if you get the tanks and straps, it mounts right in there in place of the rear tank.
Dave was yours custom built. or is it a larger replacement tank.
I just heard washington is expecting another foot of snow tonight you may have to do a roadtrip to get the rust off your plow.
A larger tank would have been supernice on that ak trip and I quit carrying a spare in the rack in 76 the second time I had a flat with a foot of snow on the ground.
Gary, you got a plastic tank? The one thing I can immediately think of that's great at removing anything (even fingerprints, don't ask how I know) is brake fluid, I'd imagine it'd be possible to drain your tank, then drop it, remove the fuel pump (if it lives in there) and the pickup/sender unit and dump several bottles of a suitable cleaning fluid in there, then let it soak for a while then pressure-wash the crap outta it (literally too). You may wanna ask your question here tho, they are the Super Duty guys who can really help ya:
