[QUOTE=someday;7171158]i changed the oil last week and got an oil sample and all looks ok...im going to wait till the summer/fall to do the 60k mi service, compression test, and change the pcv/check the hoses...for now ill just keep adding about 2qts every 3k mi

I'd change the PCV now, why wait? It's an easy task. Don't use an aftermarket PCV, get a factory Motorcraft part. They are better instead of aftermarket, that cuts corners in order to serve a wide variety of applications.
Parts such as PCV, Radiator Caps, Ignition / Wires, relays, I have found using a correct Ford piece for a few extra $$ is well worth it.
Your oil consumption is worrying me though. I have a '87 Aerostar XLT 3.0 V6, and a 2001 Explorer Sport 4.0V6 78,000 miles. Both don't use a drop of oil between changes, 5w30, includes changes with Royal Purple, Mobil 1, Chevron Supreme. No leaks, no drips and no oil consumption in both vehicles.
