3.73 Limited Slip Diff - NOT working

So, I am hoping someone can give me some insight to these diffs.

I have an 06 PSD, 4x4, 3.73 limited slip diff.. and this weekend I got stuck in the snow.. I have 35 inch toyos and this never happened before. So, I get out and my buddy guns it a little and there I am watching two wheels spin (one front one rear).

SO.. I check my original paperwork on the vehicle to make absolutely sure that it came with an limited slip diff and yes it is supposed to.

Therefore..

what are the chances I did not actually get this rear end AND if so, are these things just that crummy for actually kicking in and laying some traction down?

I had an Eaton in my old 150.. it did not however come with a limited slip diff but once I put the Eaton in.. wow! I might have to do that with this truck. Before I do that though, I am going to take it into the dealer and see if there actually is a limited slip diff installed and if so, why it is broken.

Any insight someone can give to this topic would be appreciated.

Thanks!

is it a 4x4 FX4 or just a 4x4 I know both my 02 which was a x4 offroad and the 06 I have now which is 4x4 Fx4 have the limited slip rear diff I think I remeber hearing that if you have just the 4x4 that they usually dont come with that rear end but I could be wrong to

It is not a FX4.. However minus the shocks it might as well be.. it has the skid plates, 4x4, limited slip 3.73 rear.. etc.

But you make a good point.. the factory since it was not a FX4 could have not installed it. That is all I can think of. Then again, in the past, this truck has been a monster in the snow, dirt and mud.. I would have noticed that it was missing positraction a long time ago.

Does anyone know if these limited slip diffs from Ford are good or a POS?

I think you should have a little tag on your diff cover, and an LS mark should be on it.

You should have a C4 code on your door jam sticker. This brings up an old memory, about 12 years ago a friend was stuck in his driveway with his 1987 F150 and he tells me he has positraction. I check the door code a few days later and it said it was a posi. Told him to take it back to the dealer, and after inspection they find out the build was not right. He got the unit installed but was charged a little if I remember right. If your clutches are worn you will have a problem. I did in my 1994 Explorer years ago after it had a few 100,000 miles on it.

you made me curious about this, walked out , and checked my code. I freaked out, because I have a C1 code, so I did a quick search :

These limited slips kinda suck if you do actually have one, my previous truck had the limited slip and I got it stuck a few times and only one rear tire would spin.

Also, the other day I came across a superduty that had the code to be a limited slip truck, we pulled the rear diff cover and it was an open diff......

Sorry for the confusion, up to 2003, or 2004 a C4 is a 3.73 posi. Your 2005 or on up would be C1 for a 3.73 posi.

Mine is a 2003 with an axle code of C4 3.73 maybe they had a few Mfg.'s of the rears like Dana, Stering etc. Any axle code starting with a alpha (a,b,c, etc) indicates it is a posi. My other truck has a 4.10 rear (C5) in it.

They all ratchet in FWD when the wheel's are turned all the way. The rear is trying to over run the front in rollout. I don't know about the front option.

D1 — 3.73 limited slip, F-350 (single rear wheels) Thats what my door code equals out to on my truck I think there is truth to 4x4 and fx4 packages actully had a sales men at ford tell me that I knew My old truck had that and I was curious if there was truth to that.
