I have a 98 E350 van with a V10. It has 119,000 miles and the original plugs. It is missing at idle and while cruising the miss feels like a vibration. I suspect the plugs are to blaim.
I have been going through bad episodes with my back going out on me. I have to go to a chiropractor to get it snapped back in place.
I need someone to change my spark plugs. Someone who will do it right, blow all material from holes before plugs are removed, remove carbon before installation, torque to proper spec etc and use the correct plugs. I read that SP479 plugs are the ones to get.
I know I will have to pay a few bucks to have this done right. I'm retired and my back simply will not handle the contortions necessary to do the task.
Anyone near Pontiac Michigan that wants to do this job?
Let me know.
I can't always read this forum so please call my cell phone. 248 - 895 - 1444

Cheers.

As the old saying goes "No good deed goes unpunished" While there are sure to be a few people who would like to help you out, however, most of them also know the can of worms that could be opened in doing so. Biggest problem is almost 120,000 miles, original plugs and the history of breaking plugs and threads stripping out. I do wish you luck, but in the long run, it may be better to foot the bill and have it done by a good recommended mechanic. In the end, It may be cheaper than paying someone to break a plug off or strip the threads, then foot the bill for a tow truck to the dealer, only to pay to have it done.

Actual I agree with him because my friend have 01 F250 with v8 5.4L and I won't change spark plug because I don't want responsible for break thread on head why I don't have lot money if I break and I can't pay for it. If he have old engine like 351W I would change without worry about break it.
A "good reputable mechanic" is what I'm looking for.

If someone was to blow out each spark plug well, spray a puddle of PB Blaster on some such penetrant, let it soak, then slightly loosen each plug so the penetrant gets past the spark plug seat. Let that soak into the threads, then slowly remove the plugs, there shouldn't be any stripped out threads. I believe the stripped out threads come the guy who just muscles the plugs out without taking the time to do things right.
I will pay to have it done right. I'm not looking for a freebie. I'm looking for someone that will do it right and take the precautions to avoid problems.
Yes, I understand that if even after everything is done right, a problem could develope. I know that can happen and I would have to pay to get it fixed.
I'm looking for a reputable mechanic who will at least try to do it right.
If I go to the dealer, I'm faced with a guy that has more than just my van to work on. He has a boss that wants him to get er done and move on to the next job. Time is money. A rushed mechanic isn't a good thing...
