Mud Retreads? $80 a tire, can it be trusted?

Not sure if I should get these or not, but they would still need to be mounted and balanced. My previous quote was $159 a tire mounted and balanced. These tires are $80 a tire + $25 a piece to ship.

Can they be trusted?

Retreads are always prone to separation, especially if you use your tires hard. Personally, I don't see the point since those are $105 plus mounting and balancing so that's about $130 per wheel. For $116 you can have the only part of your vehicle in contact with the road be a brand new more trustworthy part. I'll spend the extra $116.

well in British Columbia Canada you can not run retreads on your front axle,no matter if its a 4x4 or other wise. its illeagal. that being said,i have ran retreads on the back of a truck before. i had really good Bandag retreads. i had no troubles with separation issues. i have seen some terrible retreads though. most transport trucks in our area run retreads on the rear. they are commercial grade tires,so they are better quality. retreads don't like high speeds, they tend to heat up. the heat is not good for them, they will fail quickly if they get too hot. when they fail, they come apart really bad. for what you pay and what you get,i would find tires that are not retreads for your 4x4. if you can't run them up front leagally,(i would not run them up front) then your really not saving much on 2 tires. also you cant rotate them with the front tires either.

yeah, retreading on semis is illegal. they are very likely to blow out. if this is your last resort then maybe that's what has to be done, but if you can do otherwise try to avoid this.

Ever since I had a blow-out at 80 mph, I'll never drive on retreaded tires. I'll spend the money up front on new tires. There are so many ways to get in a car accident and any little thing you can do to decrease the risk factors is well worth the money in my opinion.

Let's put it this way, my grandfather (bless him) used to love retread tires before the right front tire seperated and cracked the front fender on his F-100.

Just a thought. I'm going to be paying $159 a tire. The fact it needs them so bad is what really sucks. I'd love to be putting the money into some body work instead. Damn salt....Can't we all just use sand?

That's all they are alowed to use in California. Sand.

One of the only good things about living here.

I would shop around, sometimes tire shops will try to beat other tire shops deals.

I work in the trucking industrie and retreads are only illegal on the steer axle, but on any other vehicle there ok in all 4 corners.we have very little trouble with them separating or blowing out, most retread plants do a very careful check of the casings before they are redone.I bought a set locally for a 4x4 I had and they worked great, looked great and lasted well, but I only paid $50 each for a 31/10.5/15, and like the others said there not really all that great of a price to not just buy a new tire which will outlast a retread.
