well I finally got my 78 in the garage yestarday after some grief.
it sat outside for the last month without being started and had no interest in doing so yestarday, damn winter.but after a bit of effort the brother in law and I got it fired up,snow cleaned of and in the garage.got an hour or so on it last night before company came, got some trim and lights of.
I can see a long road ahead of me now,but it will be a good way to waste away the winter.need to get motivated and get the aprons and rad support out and to the powder coating man, along with the rear wheels.as soon as I get some pictures I'll put them in my gallery.
no doc I sold the 4x4 a couple weeks ago, just have the 2wd now.all I really have to do is pull the front clip apart and get the stuff cleaned up.the cab just has a couple blisters on it and the box I will have to replace the two lower pieces behind the wheels to do it right, then its just a matter of cleaning things up and painting them.I should have most of my engine parts just after the holidays so I can get that together and have the tranny checked and a shift kit installed, and then paint.going to go with the original dark jade metalic, base clear, and then tint some of the same paint 2 shades lighter and add some more metalic and do some flames, and then clear it.will be my first attempt at anything like this but whats the worst that could happen?it looks like crap hahaha!re-sand and do it again.
yes thats the one, pretty solid old truck, just needs a fresh coat of paint,I already did all the brakes and front end.but the original 302 just doesn't have enough power for me,I'm just building a mild 5.0 HO engine for it,should have about 300 hp,C4 and I am trying to find a set of gears for the back of it too.would like 3:55 with a track loc.
it will be something different for these parts, not alot of guys around here are into the old fords.there are some custom trucks around but 98% of them are chevs,BLAH.my father is actually building one now, although my little 302 won't compair to his 468,mine will still be much nicer on the eyes, and not be like so many others in these parts.
yeah, that's just like me down here in Texas. around my town there are some other dents, but they're farm trucks. mine the nicest, for now; until another member (skosler) gets done with his 79 F100 460 ZF5 speed. there's plenty of chevys, too. some are nice, but most are farm trucks, too.
I got a bit of work done over the break, not as much as wanted but its a start, got all the lights, chrome, grill and front bumper of it,that grill isn't going anywheres is it,10 lbs of bolts to hold 5 lbs of aluminum.I hope in the next couple of days to get the rear bumper of and then get the front clip apart.I would like to get the parts of to powder coating by the first of next week so I can get them back by the end of january.
