Coil Spring replacement

I started looking into replacing the coil springs on my truck as it has always been a little lower on the front passenger side. I called the dealer for some info on the springs and gave him the spring code "C-7" from the sticker on the driver side door frame. He said each side has a different spring and gave me two part numbers for the spring shop to cross reference. Anyway, I went to the spring shop and all they have is a set of regular or heavy duty springs and we compared them side by side and there is no difference. Has anyone run into this sort of snag? If any one has done this before on a similar truck i'd appreciate some info. Also, how do I know if I have heavy duty or not and are heavy duty better for me or just the standard springs. Thanks

Take a look on the sticker for Front GAWR(gross axel weight rating), devide by 2 and this will tell you the springs used. To my knowledge both sides are rated the same. The trucks with I6 motors used a heavier spring to compensate for the extra weight of the motor. My truck (85) origionally had an I6 and the springs are 1250 lbs per side. Springs are getting weak but when I installed the V8 she rose quite a bit in the front.

Strange, cause the 300 only weighs 385 lbs, about 100 lbs less than the 351 and about 50 less than the 302. Something else must have been involved in the height change.

the reason the springs look the same is because the HD spings are the same in all respects exept for the way the steel is treated. what i did was go down to the salvage yard and since i have a 302, got springs from a 351 equipped van. the reason i went for a van is have you ever seen one dip in the front? the van has to be level to have anything close to workable steering so the springs they use are the heaviest of the heavy, mine weighed in at 20 pounds apiece.

I don't know about the wieght rating on the 300 springs. When I did my engine swap, I had to go to heavier duty springs, mainly because once the 300 was out, and the 302 was in it caused the front end of the truck to be much lower than it needed to be.

Once I put the heavier duty springs in it leveled the truck back out.

Just my .02

i have soecs that say the 300i6 weighs 60-70 lbs. less than the small block ford. i got these numbers out of two different eengine swapping guides. maybe what causes this is that more of the six hangs out past the suspension than the eight.
for any of you guys and gals who are into street rods, this is why the mustang II suspension will carry the weight of a chevy v-8. the engine is located farther back in a street rod than in a mustangII, so the weight transfer is different.
