I have a 1991 F;250 4x4 and I'm trying to find out where the resister for the heater moter is located. My haines manual says it is in the engine bay, but does not specify where.
The resistors are used to change the fan speed. Since the resistors get hot, they sit in the air stream coming from the fan. This is supposed to cool the resistor to keep it from buring up.
Hi speed the fan gets full voltage. The other speeds the fan gets the voltage after it runs thru a resistor. Different resistor equals different speed.
If you burn up one resistor, you don't have that fan speed, but should have the other speeds. If the fan doesn't run at any speed, it is probably not the resistors.
If the fan runs, but the air doesn't come out, it is an entirely different problem, and is probably related to a vacum leak.
Good luck Frank
High speed bypasses the resistor. If it only works on high I'd check the resistor and it's wiring first. My 96 lost all speeds but high. It turned out the feed wire had burned off of the resistor. A new resistor and couple terminals later it works like new.
mine doesn't come on at all its a 90 f150 I move the dial to all ac heat vent nothing the dial doesn't have much resistance going back and forth if that makes since. any ideas where to look?
Is the fan blowing tho, if it isn't then it's most likely the blower motor, then again to fix mine i replaced the switch, blower motor then the resistor. with stuff like that it's basicly process of elemanation. keep your reciept's when you find the problem and fix it you could take back the peices that you didn't need to replace.

Check the fuses first. I like to use a test light and check for power on both sides. A fuse can look okay but be broken or burned where you can't see it. Next up I'd check for power at the blower motor. If you have power but it doesn't run the motor is your problem.
Somtimes I understand not looking up info in the book, but no way can I understand this question.

haha gotta love that process pain in the **** what's a new blower motor run?
Atleast where i got it, it ran about $26, the resistor $26, and the switch was $10. i don't know if this is cheap comcared to what most people see. i go to a small store that let's Napa use their store so there prices are lower than most.
