What do you guys think is a good set of bare bones tools to carry in the Expeditions? I'm talking bare bones enough that it will fit in a bag inside of the jack cabinet. After being pooched with the alternator and realizing that all I have is standard wrenches I got to thinking. Here is what I am thinking so far.
8mm
10mm
13mm
15mm
17mm
18mm
3/16" flat head
1/4" flat head
#2 phillips
channel locks
linesman pliers
adjustable wrench
I would add some kind of 1/2 drive breaker bar or ratchet as that is what you would need for the belt tensioner. Also include the appropriate socket for your lug nuts.
Can't resist - When I had my 1988 Monte Carlo SS and the alternator nut spun off I I thought a lot about this. So Ford or otherwise:
-Small closed battery bolt wrench for those off size nuts - sure makes it easier then the regular wrenches when the battery fails.
-Vice Grips/Channel Locks
-I agree, wrench and bar for "fan" belt
-Screwdriver set, maybe a $10.00 Craftsman small set
-A few wrenches, metric and standard - Maybe 10 or so total
-Plastic ties - an assortment
-Razor Knife
-Electrical Tape
-Trial size can of WD40
-Tie Down straps
-Leatherman Tool - maybe even the deluxe one with small sockets etc. If you really only want a minimum, this item with the battery wrench, channel locks, ties, razor knife. This is a small kit.
-Maybe even one of these power point battery chargers - do they even work, you know 12 volt to 12 volt or something that small?
-LED Flashlight
Even with a small toolbox - really small you can pack a lot of stuff in one if you don't go with big wrenches. Even some bigger stuff will fit easily out of the way under a seat or in the pocket compartment next to the jack cover.
