Probably been flogged to death, but can these early blocks be reinforced with some tig/mig/gas welding around the block heater to prevent cracking? Ok to flame me...I know it is a dumb *** question...but had to ask... I've got one of those early blocks...

Yeah IF you want to cause the block to crack as it most likely will when you do something like that.

A better solution is not to use that block heater... IF you must use a heater you could install one in the lower Radiator hose.

LOL...Ja, dumb question... Anyway, swapped out the glows, should be ok now, no heater needed, doesn't get real cold here on the Southern Oregon Coast...
