code update ques....
i recently had my 2006 f150 5.4 in for a new injector. The dealer replaced that and also said they wanted to do a code upgrade. Not sure what this is, however, now i am getting 12 mpg at 63 mph on the highway and about 9 mpg in the city. i used to get at least 13.7 and 17.8.
What could have happened?
also, should i worry about having a bad injector? could it affect long term reliablity with this truck? <!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- / message -->

Its probably nothing to worry about. If they reflashed your computer it probably reset everything that your truck learned about your driving habits. So it will have to relearn it. It might take a few miles but it will come back around and probably get back to where you were before. unless they did mess something up, but if that was the case you would probably notice a real negative difference in the way the truck runs and might have a check engine light. xjcamaro is right, they reflashed your pcm. I would disconnect your neg bat terminal for 15 minutes to clear out the cam tables and have it relearn from scratch with the new calibration. This should improve your f.e. quicker than with the old settings. You were correct to get the injector replaced.

That's a pretty extreme mileage change or a reflash. Adaptive controls can only compensate for so much and with a new code it would be starting from scratch, not from where you were. I think the dealer might have flashed the wrong code. Bring it back.
