well my truck isnt running. i have narrowed it down to an oil issue. i tested the hpop with a gauge, 20psi. im going to out a new hpop in it. before i do it anyone have any ideas as to any other reason it might have that low pressure?
I've heard of the check valve in the HPOP sticking open... that would definately cause a no start... how much oil is in the HPOP ... take the plug out of the top and use something to stick in it and measure the depth.... what to do about a sticking check valve is something someone else will have to answer though, I've heard that some of the early psd's had an issue with the check and or high pressure relief valve... they'd fail and the engine would just flat die... how did you check the oil pressure? at the sending unit in the top? If so, I think thats low pressure from the engine oil pump... to get high pressure readings, you'd have to tap into one of the two lines that goes to the heads... use a gauge that will register to at least 3,000 psi. I think these trucks idle somewhere between 500 and 800 psi. At full throttle the pressure goes up to somewhere between the 2k & 3k mark.
Hey F350-6.... where did ya come up with the eagle globe and anchor avitar?... that's pretty cool... I'd assume you've been a Marine? If so... SEMPER FI !!!

Borrowed it from grunt.com Earned 3 stripes as an 0311. Got out in 88.
The pump has 2 check valves and a high pressure blow off.
Some have removed the check valves to help with flow.
How did you test the pump? You have to deadhead the other line when testing. (pump outlets).
I have checked the level in the pump and its full. i disconnected the line going into the head. the gauge i have goes to 8000 psi. so the gauge is good. but you guys talk about idle psi and wide open psi, well the truck wont run lol. so this is all getting done while cranking.
when you disconnected the line at the head you have to plug the line going to the other side otherwise your test is corrupt. while cranking you must get a minimum of 500 psi to fire the injectors. be sure the pcm is commanding ipr duty cycle otherwise there will never be any pressure built as it will dump all oil back to the crankcase
