My truck never left me stranded. Sure things go wrong, but never something that left it unable to carry me home. Thats the nice thing about mechanical components. When they go, they rarely fail completely.
If IDIs are indeed getting more popular then I can see these parts being available for many years to come. I'm sure the same was said about cars from the 60s and 70s that had carbs on them and you can still keep them running if you wanted.
Auxillary power unit (had to make me type thay big word) we use them for our heat and air conditioner so we dont idle our big motors less fuel and pollution and wear and tear on our engines. Cali was pushing us to get them for less pollution after everybody spends 7500 bucks then they outlaw them.
