How Wide Can I Go ??????

I am looking at increasing my tire width. I want a wider and better handling tire and better traction to boot. I have had different tire shops say that I can go to 255/70R15's but they are only about 3/4" wider than my 235/75R15's that I have on now.
I would like to go to 275/60R15's but I am not sure on the clearance for turning on the front end. Anyone have or had this setup on their truck of this era?

How Wide Can I Go ??????

I have 31X10.5 tires on the stock aluminum rims on my 1995 F-150 XLT SC 4x4. That size tires fills out the wheel well and give you a wider tread. No suspension modifications have been made, I get no rubbing or interference from the tires.

There is a small down side. because the tires are a bit taller, your speedometer will run a tad slow (1-2 MPH) but I've ignored the slight error for 3 years now without a ticket.

How Wide Can I Go ??????

Hey!
I've got a 1995 F150 with Firestone Firehawks SS10 P275 60 R15 on it and I have no problem whatsoever with my turning or having the fenders bottom out on them. They set probably and inch or so just inside the fenders. They give it a nice look. They only problem I've ever encountered with having those wide tires on the front is they like to grab the grooves in the road and follow them and it takes a bit to get used to. You'll have to compensate for the grab, but all things considered, I wouldn't go back to a thinner tire for anything!

I run 275/60R15's with 8" wide rims on my '78 F100 2WD with no problems at all. They handle alot better than the previous 235's on 6" rims. And they give the truck a much nicer stance and look. I wouldn't go back to thinner tires for anything.

I don't how much different your truck is from my 91 4x4 xtra cab but I took off the LT235/75R/15 and went with LT285/75R/16 and I love itand I dd not have to raise my truck, but I am in the process of doing so, but for right now it is just fine. I believe this tire is equivelent to a 33/10.50

When I had my 92 Bronco, and on my 95 f-150 as well, I had a set of 31x11.50's (they were an odd-ball size hercules terra-trac otr) on the factory steel (bronco) and aluminum 10 hole (f-150) rims, and only barely caught the radius arms at full lock (probly due to the lugs on the outermost edge of the tread) Plus it looked pretty darn cool, because it filled out the fenderwell and had an agressive tread too.

I wouldn't go much wider than a 31" x 11.5" tire. More than that and you will get some rubbing on the radius arms. Another tire the 31" x 10.5" is a really good tire too! Check out the BF Goodrich T/A ko, you'll like them.

I am with Redford and Paulg, I have 31x10.5's on stock rims for my 96f150 300 reg cab and have not had any problems (I don't have a lift kit and there is plenty of clearance).

Good luck

secondstar,

What did you run for backspacing on your 8" rims?

How Wide Can I Go ??????

I talked to a kid online once who worked for les Schwab and he said he ran 295/60R15's on all 4 corners with no tire rub at all, I'm kinda curious what his backspacing was though
