Stant thermostats

No, not for my truck. I only use ford OEM stats for mine.

But for other engines, I was wondering if the Stant brand is good or bad. I've replaced 2 identical stant thermostats in the same engine in less than 2 months. It also seems to like failing in the closed position.

Is this high rate of failure something that anyone else noticed with this brand?

I have used Stant thermostats in many gas motors.

Granted I have not worked on a gasser for 20 years or so, but Stant was my #1 choice when I had that option.

As for today, to many parts places have sacrificed quality and replaced it with quantity to lower costs.

I have learned the hard way, the most inexpensive part you can get is usually not the cheapest one in the end.

I darn near killed the 350 in my old Chev cause the darn Milodon or whatever performance thermostat never opened during initial break-in, of the 20 minutes recommended for camshaft break-in I only got less than 10. Replaced the thermostat with a Stant, drove that engine hard, never had issues.

Strange, like I've said, this engine seems to have eaten 2 stants in as many months. I'll try and find a closer OEM match for the engine, bit in the mean time I might have to drill some holes in the thermostat to keep the vehicle operational.

This is actually a diesel engine. Its my sister's ranger. This is at least the second time she had to limp it home with a jambed shut thermostat.

Neighbor and I have several of our own vehicles and take care of several more family vehicles. We both noticed about 10 yrs ago that the Stant stats were having a high failure rate. Working correctly for a couple weeks to a few months. Some stuck open, others failed to open.

Not much trouble with OEM stats.
