04 F350. When putting the truck in reverse, the audible tone stays full on (Like i am about to hit something) with absolutely nothing behind me. It used to work fine, and now it stays on full time when the truck is in reverse.
Right before this problem happened I had done 2 things
1. Used SCT tuner to load a different program to the ECU
2. Did the high idle mod found here High Idle Mod
When I did the high idle mod, it was a bit dark out, and the first time around it didnt work because I hooked the switched wire from my toggle switch to the wrong wire due to the instructions being for an 03, and on my 04 the "light blue" was changed to just "blue" evidently.
Everything else on the truck still works fine, so I dont think the wire hooked up wrong did anything bad, but the timing is questionable since it stopped working after the SCT tune and the high idle switch. I have read several posts about the backup sensors but most seemed to have a problem with no tone, or the OFF light being illuminated immediately when put in reverse. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start looking?
i have been having the same problem. only sometimes though, like the switches are tripping out or something. thought it might have to do with the cold weather we are getting in the seattle area lately???
So both of you guys are having the same problem where the audible tone is on non-stop when you are in reverse? Maybe it is the cold weather.... that would be nice anyway. If you find a solution to your problem, please post it here.
happens to me every winter, not so much the cold weather but the salt residue and frost build up on the sensors, usually a good wipe and they are fine for me. It has been around -25 C for the last few days until today here and my sensors have not been just going constant since the snow stopped really, while it was snowing they were on all the time though.
These sensors look clean, and I wiped them with a bare finger. Maybe there is water/ice on the backside of them? I will give the truck a couple days to dry out and see what happens.
It is most likely a bad sensor. All it takes is one sensor to go bad and the whole system acts up. I recently had problems with mine. Sometimes the off light would illuminate and stay on. Sometimes the audible alarm would not sound. Sometimes it would go straight to a steady tone when there was nothing near them. This started out being an intermittent problem before it completely stopped working. Took it to the dealer (under warranty) and they replaced one sensor. I believe it was one of the sensors closer to the license plate. It has been working flawlessly ever since. I saw a thread several months ago where someone bought replacement OEM sensors on ebay, isolated the problem sensor, and was able to replace it on his own. I will see if I can find it.
