I live in buffalo and have Interco Trexus tires 285/75/16 and love them in the snow. not a high milage tire though as far as wear but are E rated. Make sure the are made in the US. I had problems with ones made in mexico.
also does anyone run Pro comp allterrain tires on this site?
I ran some Pro Comp All Terrains that I had bought used on some aluminum wheels. I really liked their traction and how quiet they were on the high way for an aggressive tire. The only reason I didn't buy more when they wore out was I couldn't get them locally and would rather deal with the local tire shop for the free flat repairs and rotaions. If I could have bought some here I would definately run another set.
I have the Silent Armours in the 285 size in load range E. I live right on Lake Ontario on the Southeast curve of the lake. We get incredible amounts of snow, a lot of it Lake Effect Snow. These tires are great. I rarely even have to put my X into 4WD.
I have the same tire, in the same size, with 40K miles, and coincidentally I live in Upstate New York as well. I can not say enough good about these tires. I will be buying more of these tires when necessary.
I had a set of bridgestone winter duelers on my expedition. their performance was great in the norther area with super deep snow, off road, and pulling trailers through it all. I am thinking of getting an extra set of wheels and putting those tires on them for winter weather.
If i keep my Excursion, i think i'm going to go with the Geolander M/T 285's. thanks for all the input.
I had yoko's on my pickup. They seemed OK until the tread separated going down the highway. They claimed I must have had them under inflated or overloaded, therefore they refused to pay any damages. There was enough tread on the tire to cause a lot of damage. It came off like a retread.
