Hey guys, I'm new to diesel trucks, and was wondering which brand of diesel carries the highest cetane numbers? Unlike gas and octane rating, they are apparently not required to post this at the pump. I live in WI so the higher the better this time of year. Also, what type of fuel additives should I use this time year? Do you guys have a brand that seems to work best for cold weather? Thanks.
Every pump I've seen has a minimum Cetane rating of 40. As far as additives, it's all over the map. Some swear by Powerservice, some Stanadyne, some Howes, but they all agree that you need something. Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel has a very low lubricity, so additives or biodiesel are required to help your fuel system. If you use Powerservice, you need the white bottle for winter time since it has antigel in it. That's what I use, so I can't speak for the other brands.
I have been using power service white, and have been very happy with it. I have used Stanedyne and I liked it very well in the past but, it's harder get. I say use something every fillup. Just piece of mined.
i use power service every other fill, gray bottle for summer, white bottle for winter.
Same here. Every station in and around town has the minimum cetane rating posted on the pumps. The Flying J has 45 cetane and I usually fuel up there. Highest I've seen around here is 47 cetane.
