Around 50,000-70,000 (can't remember) The truck was having a hard start problem, it was found that 6 of 8 injectors were not firing when the engine was cold soon as it warmed up it would run great.
98,000 miles runs sluggish and increased lag time. Computer was reflashed and hole was found in turbo up pipe. Pipe replaced and runs great again.
112,000 miles misses and lack of power. Turbo, EGR system cleaned out, egr valve replaced and 8 injectors installed.
137,000 miles (current) has been running rough and missing for a couple months. Also shakes under medium load. Last week it just started losing power and then died on the highway let it sit for a few minutes and it would start back up and run again for a couple miles and then lose power and die again.
It is at Midway Ford Truck Center (KC,MO) now and they tell me it has two bad injectors and that is causing the problem. I find this kinda hard to believe and really want to know why this truck seems to have a massive injector problem.
Brian there are a couple of things that make life tough on the injectors the fuel filters, engine oil and fuel pressure.A single one of these neglected will slowly eat injectors and a combo will make it multiply.A fourm search on these topics will give you a direction to make changes to help the injectors live longer. If you are going through that many injectors at that rate something else is causing it.Also the stock c-94 injectors in your truck were prone to stiction there is an updated c-95 injector that is less problematic. The whole set should be changed to c-95 together.
The entire set that was put in at 112k was suppose to be the the "new and improved" injectors.
I told them to go ahead and replaced all four on that side, and then go out and run the HE!! out of it and make sure it was right.
The service manager mentioned the fuel pump as a cause when I first took it in but upon diagnoses they didn't think it was a problem. They are suppose to let me know in the morning.
Also - weak FICM's may cause problems that will throw injector codes from what I read. Poor system voltages can cause issue w/ the FICM. I have read about many issues that ultimately cam back to bad batteries and/or alternator. Once the FICM is bad, it needs to be replaced (they come unprogrammed as well) - have them test it (if they didn't already).
I picked it up and 8 miles south of the service center same exact thing, lost power and died this time no restart.
They sent a tow truck for it, and are paying the tow bill. Although it won't get looked at again until Friday morning. I am not happy!! Obviously didn't go for much of a test drive!
I'm going to tell you what I did. I quit taking it to Ford dealers after about $6000. worth of injectors and EGR's and Alternators and even a torque converter. I just unplugged the EGR. I went to synsethic oil and use HHS. Change oil about every 5000 miles and I now have 290,000 miles and no more problems I pull a 30ft GN trailer all the time. Just my 2 cents worth.
usually if the injectors are going bad that often there is something wrong with the oil or fuel system, like oil not being changed regularly(3-5k), bad/dirty fuel with lots of water and containments in it, low fuel pressure from the pump, fuel filter restricting proper fuel flow fuel filters should be changed every 15k, i do mine every 7500mi to be on the safe side, need to drain hfcm at least once a month, add a fuel conditioner like ps or standyne to the fuel at fillup. there is an outside chance you may have a clogged pickup line in the tank or maybe have a air leak somewhere in the fuel system, the injectors hate air being put through them. btw did you scan the engine for any codes with a code reader? hope this helps you out.
Are they the dealer out on 435 on the East side of town... out by World's of fun and the Int'l truck dealer (where I buy my fuel filters)?
It would seem that all the work you have had down under warrenty and after the 100,000 mile mark, that Ford and/or their dealers should take care of you. Obviously, there is something going on with your motor for it to quit so soon after picking it up from Midway Ford.
I live in DeSoto, KS and use Shawnee Mission Ford in Shawnee since new. I have developed a relationship with my service writer and Louis (one of the diesel tech's).
