Hi everybody i am a newby to the site and a newbie to desiels, i have a early bird 1999 ford f-250 7.3 powerstroke, the problem is i was driving down the road and it just shut itself off, tried to start it back up and it jus cranks ova, i have no rpms or a wait to start light when i try to start it, i have already changed the cps and the glow plug relay and that did not help, checked the oil and it is full and also have fuel in the fuel bowl, checked the fuses inside the cab and found one blowed, it is number 30 a 30amp fuse, i did some research and found that this fuse fuses the PCM Relay Coil, Fuel Heater, WasteGate Solenoid, and Injector Drive module Relay Coil, i put a new fuse in it and as soon as I turn the key on it blows the fuse, tried hooking up a scan tool keep gettin a no commucation error so i think this fuse also fuses the DLC because the scan tool worked on the truck before... i guess i might have a short or sumtin i have no ideal...i know sumone on this site can help me, i have heard many good thinks about this site from my friends....
Your fuel bowl heater is shorted out. When it blows the fuse, as you've discovered, it also takes power from the PCM. Unplug the fuel bowl heater (back of bowl where the filter goes), replace the fuse, then start your truck. Unless it's REALLY cold where you're at, you'll be fine running the truck without the fuel bowl heater.
Eidt: You're friends are right. Stick around and you'll see. Welcome to FTE.
Thanks for all the help, i will try unpluging that sensor tommorow, and see what that does, i live here in illnoise so it does not get really cold and i could just plug it in at night, if the the fuel bowl is shorted out, how hard is it to fix?
I got to tell you, you searched through these threads and you did a great job at trouble shooting researched your problem, good job and welcome to FTE..

can't answer your "fixin" question but i had the "exact" situation last week with my #30fuse blown. i did just what chris said and the trucks run fine since. i've just left my fuel heater unplugged.

It's not too hard to replace. You should be fine waiting until summer to change it out when the weather is a little nicer. Just unplug it and replace your fuse and drive it like that until then.
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the help, i unpluged the fuel bowl sensor and the truck fired right up... real like the site and i do plan on stickin around....

You will like it here there is a lot of info on here to use and learn from.
And a lot of people who know how to put it to good use.
I had the same problem with my 96. My one week old 01 stopped running tonight and started clicking under the dash. Can the heater go bad and not blow the fuse and also kill the truck?
By the way Chris you need to get rid of the slow typing handle it does not fit you any more.
I've been practicing.
Glad to hear you got the truck back up and running. Hope to see you around more often. Don't be shy about jumping in and asking questions. It's the best way to learn.
