I had the same problem with my 96. My one week old 01 stopped running tonight and started clicking under the dash. Can the heater go bad and not blow the fuse and also kill the truck?
This sounds like a failed alternator and subsequent dead batteries.

Did it stop running or stop starting? Clicking relays usually point towards bad batteries or a bad connection somewhere.
The truck is one week new to me. Replaced both batts because one was shot and the truck didn't have enough spin to start after three cold days of sitting. Alt showed good charge. Truck was used in the morning on the 23rd. The afternoon of the 23rd, key was turned on for the glow plugs and that's when the under dash clicking started along with various dash twich's. Starter would spin, but would not fire up. On the 24th, I unplugged the fuel bowl heater and she started right away and made 3 short trips. That night the clicking returned and wouldn't fire up again. I also noticed that the dash was dead two times I turned the key on. I'm going to redo the battery connections again tomorrow morning, clean the ground connections and check the charge levels.
