Yesterday, I noticed what seemed like a miss in my 2001 5.4L F150 SuperCrew. When I was stopped at a redlight, with my foot on the brake, the engine ran real rough, almost stalling. I put the truck in part and the motor ran good, without the miss. About 20 miuntes later, my check engine soon light came on. I took it to my local AutoZone for a free diagnois and it showed a P0307 code, cylinder misfire detected-cylinder 7. My first thought was a vacuum problem, with it being worse with the brake on. The four things listed as probable causes were;
1. ignition system fault(plug, wire, coil)
2. vacuum leak
3. injector fault
4. high or low fuel pressure
Am I on the right track, with the vacuum problem? Any thoughts are welcomed.
Well you obviously don't have a scan tool so swapping things around and rechecking codes would be time consuming.
Change the coil (C.O.P.) and spark plug in the number 7 cylinder, 3rd back drivers side. Problem should be solved.
OK, it sounds like I can swap the COP from 6 to 7 and if that is the problem, then I should get a P0306 code?
I had to take a drive today and the truck ran great. I still have the service engine soon light on, but I did not notice any misfire. One thing I will note is that I did put gas in it yesterday, something else going on or should I swap the COP's?
Drove the truck again today and it ran fine. Also, the service engine soon light has gone off. Maybe it had something to do with the fuel cap causing low fuel pressure, as they suggested as #4? These are the best problems to have, the ones that solve themselves!! But, thet usually come back soon....
