i have a friend with a 85 6.9 looking at thermostat choices as his needs replaced. its averaging 10 degreese here in north idaho. is a 203 thermostat a good option for him? we have talked about putting a winter front on his truck as well. he does alot of interstate travel
ok, splurged lastnight at sears for a lazer thermo. After 9 miles at 60-65 the top of the radiator is at 185-190 upper hose shows 140 lower hose 95 exhaust pipe about 225 on all sides. this was about 1-2 minutes after setting the parking break.
Those temps are good.
I just changed my thermostat bought the new one from international I believe.
Reason for changing motor was running too cool thermostat turned out to be broke and staying open. After changing it would idle at around 170 highway 190 195 empty going by my manual guage.
I shoud have reread the thread I see you have an aftermarket guage I would think your guage is wrong. I'm thinking you should be reading at least as the top of the radiator.
I thought I was having coolant problems and the gage was the problem the whole time. Installed an aftermarket gage and saw what the temp realy was. No more problem.
