A Panasonic is not factory, they were just pretty popular to buy aftermarket.

Most people that bought an aftermarket stereo did so because the truck came with something less than what they wanted, like just AM radio. I don't know about the sound quality - in my opinion it's all old anyway and if you're looking to upgrade, put in a modern DIN style head unit.

Ford owned Philco in the 1970's, and some radios are so marked.

If not marked Philco, the only other factory name on radios will be Ford.

Factory Radios will say either Philco, or Ford on them.

Stereo companies did make factory Radio Replicas. So that is probably what you have seen. Some of them were installed by dealers.

I have a Clarion "Ford Replica" AM-FM stereo, on my shelf somewhere.

Wink

I personally think that the sound quality that a given radio/stereo produces is all in the quality of the speakers!

The Factory Radio tends to be better than the Replicas of the same era.

Can you guess which is the Factory Radio, and which one is the replica in the following picture?

Yes, the top one is the Factory Ford Radio, and the bottom is the Clarion "Spec II" replica.

You might take a look at these. I've been looking but can't get off the fence. I don't know who makes them. LMC Truck Parts - Page 83

I was thinking about posting the LMC stereos, but I thought I might get flamed since it's LMC and they aren't a sponsor.

I have one of those radios for my truck. I think for just a radio the sound is OK. I would rather have put in a CD player and I actually had the bracket made and tried to slide in the player and it was too long and it hit my A/C,heater ducting and I didn't want to modify the ducting to make it work. Also, I didn't want to take the chances of screwing up a brand new dash bezel to make it work. So, I took the easy way out. Downfall, for the price of one of the radios, I could have had a hell of a CD player.

Are there any sources for NOS radios for the purists in the crowd?
