Definatly get a Pete's prefilter cover it really adds to the look. The 6637 can get fairly loud though so if you want great filtration but as quiet as stock you might want to look into for Ford AIS system it costs about 200 dollars and the filter elements are $80+ I do believe.

I have the AIS and yes it is expensive compared to the 6637.
If I didn't have 10 inches of snow sitting on top of the hood right now I would take a picture of the filter element. It is a very large block of media, stands about 6 inches thick.

Wow, this surprises me.....why is it so loud? Surely it won't be louder than the diesel itself?!?!? Mine (engine) is pretty loud, especially in the winter.

You leave the base of the box in. Everyone told me it would fit in without problems, but I ended up trimming quite a bit off the base. Pretty much all that was left was the battery tray part. Maybe its an 01 thing?

The upper rad hose part number at NAPA is #9066

Hmm.....I dunno what was up then. The dang filter just wouldnt fit. I did find out that the 01's list 2 different stock filters, one with 2 inch tall media and another with 3 inch.

Weren't some of the 6637's longer then others?

My old 01 was higher then my 00 but I didn't have to modify the box any.

The 6637 is louder because its an open element filter where the Stock, AIS and AFE systems have boxs built around them, several members here have built 6637 Airboxs that quietened them down alot.

I have a 2003 and I want to add this 6637 intake. From what I'm reading the only parts I need are the 6637 filter, 4" PVC pipe, and 4" hose clamp. Are there any mods need to done to the stock battery box/holder in a 2003?

Thanks!

I didn't do anything to the battery box, still in place. I just took out the top of the filter box.

You want a 3" PVC or ABS pipe coupler (4" OD). Or, better yet, a piece of 4" exhaust tubing.

Not to take away from FleetFilters, but here is a cross reference sheet for the 6637 if any of these places is closer and might price match.
