I hate to say it, but you better read that link and see if the pump is trying to push fluid to the cooler. Your pump may be toast. Of course we don't know because the cooler will never show warmth if no fluid is moving which could be the stuck valve. Unfortunately you need to do the Dieselsite tests and find out where the problem is.
You are right, I didnt read it. I just printed it out though after reading it a couple times just now. Im going to try those tests and see where the issue is.

That could be a possibility of a pinched line, im going to go all through that now. I do have an IR temp gun and that will def aid in the troubleshooting. Its not a bad guage, thats what I was thinking at first too but the temp guage on the dash started to rise when my guage hit 220, so thats when I knew it wasnt lying.

Yeah I just heard it will only be about a half inch thankfully! Still would like to crawl around to make sure this tube is my issue. I may have a chance to get my truck in tomorrow also to a good trans shop (supposedly) so that will be my last resort.

Ok I just did that test, what a pain but not hard, looks like the cooler bypass valve IS bad. Going to pick it up at 7:30am and hope for an easy install. At least one of the bolts will come off easily!

Just looks like a pain to get the old tube out and the new tube in with the way its routed.

Cant wait to get that thing replaced.

Ok, I got that bypass part installed. Im not sure if its working or not. I have to go plow now so ill know pretty quickly. There was some type of lube in the fitting on the end towards the front of the truck, I left it on there assuming your supposed too??? It was gooey so im hoping that its melts out, its not hard like wax or anything.

The temps are warmer than I thought they should be but who knows, at this point, i will know shortly. Im really hoping this is it. There are no kinks in the hard lines and or rubber hoses. Ill post the Ford part # when I get home, hopefully with good news.

Im not feeling too hopeful right now ans the lines running through my cooler seem pretty cold.

Oh man, crosses fingers for you.

BTW, I'm sure you've checked that you have enough fluid in the tranny right? Sorry, just making sure.

Me too!! With a recent overhaul maybe the builder will help out. This is a common failure for a 4r100 trany. Its good you have a trany temp gauge installed on your truck too! Hope it works out.

Well, a little update.

The temp is holding at 150-160 which is good. Thats about where it normally is before this mishap. I thought it would be cooler than that with the new aux cooler installed but at this point, its not melting down and im plowing. It would have overheated by now with the old bypass. The aux cooler lines still feel awefully cold but who knows, its working ATM..........

I forgot the paper with the part # on it again, ill post later.

I think you have it fixed.
The internal temperature is staying down, which is what you want.
The external plumbing will be pretty cool in freezing weather, I think.
HUGE heat differential so it will suck the BTU's right out of the ATF.

Well Im not convinced for some reason that im in the clear but it stayed below 150 the whole time which is pretty good. after idling for a bit it would drop to about 110.

There are 2 wierd things that happened though, this may be a guage malfunction but its been working perfect since I installed it but I went in to a gas station 2 different times and when I jumped back on the road the temp was in the 210 range but then in a matter of a minute, it dropped back down to 125-150 range. That happened 2 times like that. Is there a thermostat or sensor that could be bad too? Its almost like the temp is being regulated somehow or the flow or something. I jumped under the truck a bunch of times during last night and used my IR temp gun on the lines and pan, the guage is correct and not all the times am i getting fluid in the return lines unless they normally measure about 36* in 29* weather.

I really really appreciate all your help from everyone, id been really up a creek without your help!
