I have been considering installing a coolant filter, but would like to see how many people are using them. As well as posiyive or negative feedback since the filter had been installed.
i have two, one in my 04` f250 and one in my 04` f450. great product, great results, fould sand and particles in filters from both trucks. good investment
Just about everyone recommends it. Mine is getting shipped right now, fixin to put it on as soon as it gets here. From the looks of my overflow bottle with all the sand that was in it I think its very important. Why manufacturers don't think of all things these guys on the forums do, I can't understand.
I got my coolant filter and filter assembly at carquest for $40 and it is a simple install. I did it as I changed the water pump. Filter should be routed as bypass on the return side of the coolant system.
I just got mine from Dieselsite.com and installed it last week. I have over 1000 miles on it already, but they say to wait 20hours before the first change, so I'll probably change it in 2 weeks. I just wish I would've bought it earlier....it can't hurt!
I put my own together, got the base at the local International dealer for $20, plumbed it all in myself for about $50 total. I haven't changed the filter yet, but I am sure it is a good thing. I am very curious to see what kind of crud it filters out.
I installed one on my '05 X when new and i'm on my 3rd filter for over a year now still running nice and clear. First two filters clogged up with crud pretty fast. No negs on this mod. (38k on it now)
The very first mod I did to my truck and one of the best. Money well spent. Your water pump and oil cooler with thank you for it. Now go ahead and pull that trigger.
Just finished installing my coolant filter from dieselsite.com. It was straight-forward to install, came with instructions and pics, was designed to fit my truck, and came with all the parts including hose clamps and even teflon tape for the threads. If there was anything difficult it would have been the tapping into the heater hose due to where it was located but that wasn't bad either. One tip I might add is their instructions didn't point out quite good enough that their is 2 points where the bracket is held to the truck. The bottom bolt on the bracket with the big washer also holds it in place and keeps the top slot from sliding down out of the rubber radiator gromlet. The big washer and nut is in a tough place to get to but I used a pair of needle nose to hold it in place while I put the bolt thru it and it wasn't that big of a deal. I did however, lost about a half gallon of antifreeze leaking out of the heater hose when i split it so you might be prepared to have some antifreeze available to replace in the bottle when you're through. It's a neat setup and quick to do, I feel better about having it installed.
