Got one a while back from Dieselsite. After changing and cutting up the first 2 filters to see what's in it, I have to say it's a MUST mod on these trucks...

I bought mine from dieselsite along with the ball valves. I highly recommend them. I have pics of my installation in my gallery.

I've got one on my 02 7.3L and the ball valves are a MUST if you live anywhere that it gets cold like up here in MN.

Any suggestions on an easy and best way to cut them up to see what's inside?

I use an air powered mini cut off wheel, used alot in the exhaust business for cutting tubing and clamps off. It works pretty good.

We use the same tubing cutter as we use on 4" exhaust pipe to cut open filters.

From reading in another thread...the coolant returns to the reservoir after the coolant filter. When it stops flowing to the reservoir then the filter is plug.

New Coolant and Oil By-Pass Filtration Install

Hey y'all,

Here's a few pics of my recent install of both an AMSOIL by-pass oil filter kit and a Dieselsite Coolant by-pass filtration kit.

My truck is a recently purchased 2004 Ford Excursion Limited 4x4 6.0ltr. Here's an overall view of the project from under the hood...

<hr size=4 width="80%">

<p align=center><img src=http://members.***.net/jtuck5187/OVERALL02.JPG height="480" width="640" alt="Overall View from Under Hood" border="3" </p>

<hr size=4 width="80%">

Here's a couple of shots of the the bracket I made to install the filters together. I used 1 1/4" Aluminum "L" purchased from the big orange box (48" piece) and cut to install using the stock Alternator mounting bolts.

<hr size=4 width="80%">

<p align=center><img src=http://members.***.net/jtuck5187/BRACKET01.JPG height="480" width="640" alt="Mounting Bracket" border="3" </p>

<hr size=4 width="80%">

<p align=center><img src=http://members.***.net/jtuck5187/BRACKET02.JPG height="480" width="640" alt="Mounting Bracket" border="3" </p>

<hr size=4 width="80%">

It's a little tight to fit both filters under the hood, but using this new bracket I can easily change both filters and they do not rub or chafe against other parts...

<hr size=4 width="80%">

<p align=center><img src=http://members.***.net/jtuck5187/FILTERS02.JPG height="480" width="640" alt="FILTERS" border="3" </p>

<hr size=4 width="80%">

In the photo below, you can see the ball valves I installed from Dieselsite for the coolant filter to make filter changes a breeze. I have just about 1000 miles on the truck since the install and am planning on changing the first coolant filter soon.

<hr size=4 width="80%">

<p align=center><img src=http://members.***.net/jtuck5187/COOLANTBALL02.JPG height="480" width="640" alt="Coolant Filter Ball Valves" border="3" </p>

<hr size=4 width="80%">

And last but not least, here is where the heater hose from the firewall was tapped...

<hr size=4 width="80%">

<p align=center><img src=http://members.***.net/jtuck5187/HEATERHOSETAP03.JPG height="480" width="640" alt="Heater Hose Tap Location" border="3" </p>

<hr size=4 width="80%">

Hope that I did not post to many pictures! I just thought I'd show how I did it. It seems to be working just fine and hopefully is worth the time and effort. I intend to keep this truck for a long time. Maybe if I treat it right it will treat me well in return.

Thanks,

Jonathan

Nice job! I really like how you got them both to fit in there. Now I think I have to reroute both of mine to look like yours! It makes it so easy to change either filter.

You would make the perect salesman lol j/k

I had to modify my coolant filter bracket due to
the banks larger intercooler pipes,not much room there.
