E40d Swap Question

I am a new poster but have been learning here for quite a while. I have a 95' f350 4x2, 7.3 turbo, crew cab, flatbed, 165K miles. Door code (E) indicates the transmission is E40D. The transmission was rebuilt 2 years ago by incompetent shop. (live and learn). Have had it back numerous times with mediocre results. I don't get a flashing OD light but the shifting is pretty iffy, hot, cold, forward, reverse sometimes it is great, sometimes nothing. Scanner reads, I believe code 1728, transmission slippage detected. I have the opportunity to buy a used E40D from a 96 F 150 at a very affordable price, is it a bolt up interchange? It is supposed to 82k miles on it. I can have it rebuilt if needed and get the mods that are recommended. Interested in you feed back.

Thanks!

Check this out, this is my next major upgrade

"7.3 Powerstroke to Allison**This plate will adapt your 7.3 Powerstroke motor to an allison 1000 series transmission with a GM bellhousing. Must be used with our hybrid billet flexplate. Available for 12v/24v (shown), or Commonrail motors. There is no need to clearance your transmission with this adapter plate. Includes transmission mounting bolts and starter mount bolts
$795"

If that is the same allison that comes with a d-max it wouldn't be an upgrade IMO. That trans has about as much trouble as a stock e4od on our diesels.

$800 for the adapter. $2000+ for a used trans, another $2000 for a rebuild and $1600 for the controller....your money would be better spent on a BTS e4od rebuild.
It's bullet proof....with an unmatched warranty. $4000-5500

I'd have to agree Jim, seems that getting the shift control would be the main problem???
The E4OD has a lot of valve body problems and can ne an easy fix in many cases.

Same here! It would be a waste of time and cash!
The problem with the E4/4R is it is as missunderstood as the PSD is.

i agree as well, it doesnt take that much money to get a bulletproof FORD tranny. i have never been an allison fan to begin with. give me a stick anyday. i never liked the allison shifts, especially in the duramaxs.
