When I had my dealer change my plugs they made sure that I knew if they break a plug they are not held responsible, and it will not be covered under my extended warranty...if I didn't agree they would not touch my truck. Gotta love Ford!
I charge 0.5 hr extra after the first plug that breaks. Fair to me b/c I did have to buy the $100 tool. About a year ago we had a plug change job turn into a cylinder head replacement. Number 4 broke and the tech beside me tried to remove it using the Ford tools and ended up damaging the threads for the spark plug. The customer called Ford and got them to warranty the cylinder head with 100k on it. You can get stuff covered just as long as you know who to complain to. It helps to take the truck back to the dealer you bought it from. If we get a problem child from another dealer we very rarely try to help with warranty. Each dealer has to keep their warranty costs at or below a set figure or they will get audited by Ford. That could end up the dealer costing tens of thousands depending on how many claims they have.
Well I purchased my truck from this dealer and have all my servicing done there and they still gave me this BS. The service writer had a attitude about it and that really pissed me off.
I suggest going to the service manager or even the owner of the dealership. Tell them how much business you have brought to their dealer(make up some stuff if u have to) and threaten to go to the local news channel if they don't help. You have to threaten with $$$ to get anything done.
I talked to the dealership that I bought my truck from and they said that the motorcraft plugs they would be putting in my truck would be one piece. Is this true? I will probably be taking it in monday to get it done. What do you all recommend?
So basically if I go with the champion or the brisk then I shouldn't have to worry about breakage, but I need to replace more often... Is that correct?
Yes, correct. For non-race applications I would go with Champion. The Brisk plugs are primarily intended for race applications (they are a colder heat range plug).
I have 19k on my truck...and it's possible for one to break if I change 'em now....or at 100K...but believe me, I would have an easier time justifying pulling the heads at 100K than 19K....
So I'm gonna wait, and tackle it when it needs it, and deal with it then...
I think I'm with you. I only have 14K on a 2007 FX4. I'm not going to risk changing them now, possibly breaking one, and then putting in a cheaper Champion plug that needs to be changed more often (although I do like that it's one piece).
At the rate I put on miles I won't hit 100K until the year 2021. I keep up on all my maintenance but the plugs will be someone elses problem by then.
I just changed the plugs in my brother-in-laws 06 F-150 SuperCrew. A couple of the plugs were stuck pretty good. I ended up dabbing some liquid nirtogen on these old stubborn plugs to make them shrink and they came out without any problems afterwards. Sure beats snapping them off in the head.
