high speed shimmy
hey guys i have a 92 f-150. At 65 mph i get a vibration like a wheel shimmy coming from the rear. i have 4 new tires, new universal joints , wheel alignment, front end is ok, any ideas?

I have the same problem with a '95 F150, but at 55mph. I posted a similar message a few days ago, looking for help. Haven't received any help though. Good luck with your request. I'll keep checking your threads to see if someone replies to you. By the way, I bought the truck new. It's on its 3rd set of tires and second set of rims, plus the drive shaft has been changed, yet Ford still claims that the tremor/shimmy is caused by the tires.

I've been chasing a similar problem. Next step is to jack up the rear, put it in gear and check for wheels out of round.

I had the same problem on a Ranger I used to have, and also on a (dare I say it?) Subaru. New tires, new rims, recently rebalanced the whole works, recently aligned... still the vibration. Wound up rebuilding the whole front end on the Subie, still there. Turned out to be a defect in a tire, in both cases. If the shimmy continues, try rotating your rear wheel(s) to the front and see if the shimmy migrates.
