Hey guys I'm still getting used to my new used truck and have discovered a new noise/problem. There is a shimmy feeling in the steering wheel under light acceleration and also when I slow down to a crawl I hear a noise that sounds kinda like metal on metal brakes grinding. It's very daring
Sorry accidentally hit send. ***it's very faint and only happens at slow speeds. Does anyone have any clues to what it could be? I'm having a poor mileage issue and was wondering if this may be related. Also my egts get hot really quickly when I get into it. To the point where I can't do a 0-60 before getting to 1200. Any help guys? 02 7.3 by the way
sounds like its time for a front axle /steering inspection,if your not familiar with this,Les schwab will inspect for free & ask them to show you the worn items then you will get a free lesson on inspections.Idont think your high EGT is related to your shimmy.
Addressing your Hi EGT's. Check for boost leaks at your boots on the air charge system and look for soot on the firewall behind the turbo if you have soot on the firewall you have a leak at your uppipes.

I would stick with the shimmy, could be front end parts worn. More about your truck? Mileage, 4x4, 4x4 engaged when you feel it? Could be as simple as tire psi, broken belt.
Sounds to me like it might be your wheel bearings. All you have to do to check them is:
1. Jack up truck to where wheels are just off the ground.
2. Grab the tire at 12 & 6 o'clock.
3. Rock back and forth.
If there is any play there it is your wheel bearing. You may also be able to tell just by spinning your tire and listening for that grinding noise once you get the truck jacked up. Good news is that if thats the problem its an easy job.
Check the slide pins on your brake calipers and closely inspect the rotors - particularly on the back side. If the rotor looks more worn on the inside than it does on the outside, plus you see uneven wear on the rotor face - that is stuck caliper slide pins getting you. If all of this is true, you may need rotors, pads, and slide pin service. It's easy on the front wheels - not so much in the back.
Thanks for the help guys but what worries me is the light acceleration part. It's a very light vibration in the steering wheel. Also I have a weird noise coming from under the fuse panel. Sounds like an etching noise and it's very annoying. But I will start with what you guys have said and I'll report back soon
I would start with a drive line inspection, make sure things look in order and bolts are tight. When you’re under the truck, also check the front end. There are lots of rubber and bolts that are getting up in age and start to cause all sorts of odd vibes and noise when loose. It sort of sounds like your T case maybe engaged, do you have auto 4X4 or manual? A quick check is to turn the front drive shaft to see if it spins freely. Good luck.
Can you make a video of it, post it on YouTube, and link it here? The driveline has a carrier bearing that can make noise. Brakes can make noise. Front wheel drive can make noise. Do you have 4X4? If you grab the front driveline, does it free-spin, or is it locked? How many miles on the truck?
The front drive lines spins freely. It is an auto tranny. I haven't had the chance to put the truck on a lift or anything as I have been busy working. I am hoping to be able to check Thursday
