i think you answered your own question when you said you have to wiggle the wires to get it to run.....

If the fuel heater shorted it would blow the fuse as well so just unplugging it wouldn't help unless you change the fuse as well. You need to check fuses as there is one that powers the cigar lighter and the diagnostic plug.

What wires did you wiggle?

check the main wire harness that runs across the left valve cover under the air intake tube near the front of the engine. it rubs through on the valve cover and bracket sometimes. if thats good then check the ipr harness in the valley of the motor, they will melt after years of use and oil being dripped on them

Coonhunterjoe is right on that one ! I've had that happen on one of our trucks... bracket that holds the intake pipe rubbed into the main harness..killed idm voltage to several cylinders making for a nasty miss. Actually, anywhere there is a bend in a harness is a potential place for wires to get the insulation rubbed off em and short em out. On the later model trucks with intercooler... the plastic wire looming that "protects" wiring, is notorious for rubbing holes in the aluminum cooler tubes where they touch... imagine what it can do for little wires inside with much vibration...
